Water gardens can be easily linked to koi ponds and provide many advantages:

- water and bog plants can be enjoyed without being uprooted by hungry koi

- these plants help remove excess nutients from the system for better water quality. This is known as vegetal filtration

- these add-on ponds can be set up with drainage systems and can act as a sump filter, creating a hands-free way to help clean solid fish waste from the main pond

- The rock garden was moved over and replaced with a sump filter water garden
